red hot hair & what I wore

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

After many trials & tribulations…I finally have the perfect red hair color! Well, perfect for me. After many months of being a blonde, now I have the super bright, but not too unnatural red I’ve been itching for. So happy.

Wore this out on a sushi date, when it was warm enough to just wear a hoodie…those days are slipping away into a cold winter oblivion. I’m off to go on a shopping trip with my mother, wish me luck!

thrifty fashionista

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Woah, I went to the cutest thrift store in New Haven, CT. I’ve passed by it a buncha times before finally going inside. When I went to pay for the small things I picked out, one of the sweet ladies who worked there grabbed a bandana and a stick, and they wrap your purchases into a sachel!

How awesome is that?! Carrying it through town and later onto the train made me feel like I was running away from home. The place is called “Fashionista” & i’ll definitely be going back anytime i’m in the area.

This was inside said sachel:

♥ vintage clothing pattern: i’ve been working on collecting a bunch for a DIY project, plus i’m totally going to make that peter pan collar dress
♥ handmade heart pin
♥ birdie pin
♥ little pink elephant–for my zen garden!

Also, I’ve gotten a bunch of rad clothes thrifting from various places lately. I wanted to share my favorites:

♥ Cardigan (from the Free bin!) from Fashionista Thrift
♥ green bolero/sweater, Free People brand!
♥ red polka dot dress…love.
♥ blue & black striped sweater dress
♥ Teal leopard print sweater, which i’m going to reconstruct
♥ ruffle & lace dress

+Thank you all for the lovely comments on my site redesign!

Craft: Lace spray paint shirt

Monday, April 11th, 2011

I haven’t been crafting or sewing too much lately, all of my focus has pretty much been on graphic design. I think I go through small phases with my hobbies & things I like to do. BUT, since the weather is starting to warm up i’m getting motivated to be super crafty again.

I had just enough lace left over from this shirt to cover the white tee & spray paint the heck out of it to make a snazzy pattern. I love how the scallop at the bottom of the fabric left a neat edge, too.

If you’re curious, I got the rad idea from here.

overdue post. self-stitched september & business casual & what i’ve been making

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

This is wayyy overdue.

So, I participated in Self-Stitched September after reading about it in a DIY blog. Even though most of the things I wear on a daily basis are handmade by myself or someone else or second hand..i thought it would be fun to do & see how much i actually do wear handmade things. Also, I wanted to give myself a huge push to make more clothes for myself.

In September I also started a new job. I realized that I didn’t have a lot of business casual/dressy/work clothes AT ALL. Also at this time I was low on funds so instead of buying myself a whole new wardrobe I refashioned old clothes I already had, sewed some things from scratch, dug into my piles of old clothes I plan on selling/donating, and bought clothes from thrift stores.

I didn’t make as many clothes as i wanted to (due to said new job) but here’s what i did make:

pink shrug with hoodstooth trim

this was a bit difficult, the fabric has no stretch whatsoever!

skirt fail

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I decided that I need more cute skirts in my life.

So, I got totally inspired by this picture/outfit from Lookbook (sorry i didn’t save the original link!) and i tried to make a similar skirt, making up my own pattern.

and…..

FAIL.

It came out WAYYY too poofy. haha. Back to the drawing board to take the whole thing apart and use a lot less fabric. Oh boyyyy
