picnic in the park

picnicscene

Something you probably don’t know about me: I’m in a long distance relationship. Well sort of.. the boyfriend lives a state away when he’s going to school, and we see each other almost every weekend. Anywho, it just so happens that our favorite pizza joint is the halfway point between us…an hour away from each of us. So I took a drive to the west end of Long Island, we grabbed a pizza & set up camp in a nearby park. And we had ourselves a little picnic date.

Pizza picnic!

I got Matt a portable record player over the summer, and he brought it along for some tunage. I was totally feelin’ my polaroid camera that day [probably because the weather was perfect] so I brought that with me & some records. I love the fact that since the film is old it results in neat color effects. I adore polaroids but the major downside is the film being so expensive…hence my lusting for an Instax camera!

I forsee us using the record player outside a whole bunch…time to squeeze in some more picnics & road trips before it starts to get chilly out ♥

Last year: That time I was in a music video

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

Last summer around this time, I got to do something pretty rad..

..be part of a music video!

[skip to the 1:20 mark for when the music starts]

This is the first official video from a band called The Wonder Years, for their song “Melrose Diner.” Every time I watch this it makes me smile, it brings to mind that great day & the summer in general. Little ‘ol me is in the back of the crowd surrounding the wrestling ring, along with a bunch of wonderful people/friends. The Wonder Years are a pop punk band from Philadelphia, but the video was shot on Long Island..a couple towns away from me. It was beyond awesome to see the process of the video being made, everyone being silly and getting really into it, and watching the release of the video a few months later.

TWY were on Warped Tour this year, & they totally deserved it. If you haven’t heard of them give em a listen! I always blast their album ‘The Upsides’ when I need a good cheering up, it never fails. ♥

skyline going to brooklyn

Saturday: took a short trip to Brooklyn to pick up some things for a new venture I started on Sunday..more on that later!

burger from Foodswings

Then went to my favorite vegan fast food joint and headed home happy.

drivin'

The weekend extended into Monday, after work ended up back in Brooklyn for a show. Saw a couple really great bands, shared a plate of hummus with friends, and got home way past my bedtime. I haven’t been near the city in awhile, so it was super nice. A few months ago I was taking the train westbound almost every weekend, woah!

Other things i’ve been loving:
staying positive . trading my gym subscription for rollerskating . really cold pools & burning hot hot tubs . finding spontaneous awesomeness . planning my next two tattoos . working on a geeky but rad design project for some friends . trying new things & not chickening out

I’m just going to ignore the fact that it’s August already. let’s just pretend that there’s still months left of summer…okay? okay!

Guest post: Chantilly of ChantillySongs!

Today i’d like to introduce you to…

Hi there, Completely Unfinished readers! I am Chantilly, a singer-songwriter turned blogger.

chan outfit..

ChantillySongs is where I do my writing, and I like to talk about outfits and indie fashion, and life experiences mostly. But I also blog about my the adventure of recording my newest EP. I studied music composition at Purchase College, where there was an amazing community of artists who are now all doing great things. I made my first album, “caught light” there.

Music is something I’ve always put my heart fully into, and something I’ll probably never be able to stop doing even if I tried. Right now I’m making a new album with my producer friend Saul Simon Macwilliams at his studio The Lovely Light. He regularly works with indie greats like Jenny Owen Youngs and Gregory and the Hawk, and is also currently a touring member of Ingrid Michealson’s band.

He makes my songs sound like super-human versions of themselves. I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve done, and the experience has been dreamy, exciting, and rewarding. We’re almost finished, and it’ll be out in the next few months… be on the lookout!

on an island [fire island]

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Last weekend I went on a little getaway with my family. I call it a getaway because the fifteen minute ferry you have to take to get to Fire Island leaves from my town…so really we didn’t go very far. I haven’t been there since I was maybe twelve years old..I have this vivid memory of my brother and I playing with these other kids our age & playing with frogs and other bugs [HA]. That’s all I remember really.

Fire Island is an island that’s part of Long Island, and the area we were at is called Davis Park. In Davis are lots of beach houses, one bar, a post office, fire station, and one small grocery store…that’s it. Our house was a one minute walk to the beach, so that was pretty sweet. The best best part of living on Long Island are the beaches.

This photo is a good representation of basically every night we were there:

jamming

Music. Family. Friends. I loved how people kept walking by our house and stopped to listen to the music. When we noticed, we invited them in & one night started with about 8 of us and ended with around 20 people!

Are there many beaches where you live/grew up?
