on an island [fire island]

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Last weekend I went on a little getaway with my family. I call it a getaway because the fifteen minute ferry you have to take to get to Fire Island leaves from my town…so really we didn’t go very far. I haven’t been there since I was maybe twelve years old..I have this vivid memory of my brother and I playing with these other kids our age & playing with frogs and other bugs [HA]. That’s all I remember really.

Fire Island is an island that’s part of Long Island, and the area we were at is called Davis Park. In Davis are lots of beach houses, one bar, a post office, fire station, and one small grocery store…that’s it. Our house was a one minute walk to the beach, so that was pretty sweet. The best best part of living on Long Island are the beaches.

This photo is a good representation of basically every night we were there:

Music. Family. Friends. I loved how people kept walking by our house and stopped to listen to the music. When we noticed, we invited them in & one night started with about 8 of us and ended with around 20 people!

Are there many beaches where you live/grew up?

Summer Shoes

I tend to take photos of my shoes in a bunch of different places/seasons. I’m sure i’m not the only one who does this…do you also? I’m going to put all of them together in some kind of photography series, I think! I took this photo in my Aunt and Uncles backyard in Pennsylvania, wearing my favorite flats.

Summer is by far my favorite season. I’m mega happy it’s finally here.

Things that made me smile lately:
having the house to myself . not stressing . surprise dinner brought to me from a state away . sweet comments about my blog . purple hair. meeting new people . clean basement . coffee dates . photobooth pictures . reading a great book . new vinyl records . watching all the episodes of how I met your mother . installing new typefaces . yummy green smoothies

Ocean City Beach Fest

Monday, May 30th, 2011

A flyer I designed for the Ocean City Beach Fest, which was yesterday. The fest is held annually in New Jersey on the boardwalk, over ten bands scheduled to play & the proceeds from the event tickets go to disaster relief victims. My band was included to play the festival and I was excited about the road trip, music, and hanging out on the boardwalk. Although, unfortunately we didn’t end up attending or playing (long story!) I used one of my photos from my recent trip to the Jersey Shore area.

Tomorrow Will Be

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

During this time of year, I almost always get the winter blues. I get into funks, miss the warm weather & being outside, and it really gets me down sometimes. I know a ton of people go through this also, so I took this photo today as a pick-me-up. No matter what’s going on & how much you think something sucks…tomorrow is a different day, a fresh start, and it’ll get better. Sleep on it & cheer up! [Inspired by the song 'Tomorrow will be' by Discount which has been stuck in my head lately]

bliss.
